Adding Credentials to NovaStor (NBK) Services

Use Case

For MSSQL, NAS, and Hypervisor backups the account used must have permission to backup each resource, attached to the service performing the backup job. A common account to perform backups will assist in the creation and configuration of backup operations across all resources.

Process Using Services.msc

Do this for the following three services:

  • NBK DC Remote Command Executor
  • NBK DC Hiserv Service
  • NBK DC Backup Service (GIR Disk Pools)
If you open the services applet (services.msc), you will identify the NovaStor services by the first 3 letters in service name "NBK".

MSSQL Backup Configuration

Edit the properties, "Log On" tab, select "This Account", and enter the login credentials.

Adding Credentials to Services Using the Interface

Alternatively, you can add the credentials using the NovaStor DataCenter interface by performing the following steps:
  1. In the left column of the interface click on "Nodes Management".
  2. Right click on the "Command Server" and select "Edit Node"
  3. Click on the "Edit" button to the right of "Service Account".
  4. Enter the proper credentials for resource access:

Manually Configuring Services

Upon reinstalling NovaStor DataCenter, if the services do not correctly install (rarely ever happens), you may need to manually install the services:
  1. Launch an elevated command prompt (Administrator)
  2. Type the following command
    hijacc -c “C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\hijacc.exe"
  3. Type the following command
    hiserv -c “C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback\hiserv.exe"
