​Datacenter Client cannot ping Backup Server

After creating a backup job in Novabackup Datacenter you have the option to "Ping" which checks the connection between client to backup server and backup server to storage device.  Sometimes you might see a red X when the client is trying to connect to backup server.

Verify that on the backup server machine there is a service running called "Hiback Service".   This is the service that clients connect to.  If that service is not running or not installed, clients wont be able to connect to this backup server.


1) Under Node Management on the Command Server, right click the node and verify that the machine has been flagged as a Backup Server.

2)  If machine is already flagged as backup server but no service is installed you may need to manually create the service on the backup server machine.   From an admin command line you can run:

hiserv c "C:\Program Files\NovaStor\DataCenter\Hiback"

and this will create the service manually.
