Actually there are 2 possible reasons known:
1 - Eventually a restart of the Management Services on the ESX host solves the problem according to:
2 - Change Block Tracking (CBT)
CBT has to be activated when no snapshot of the VM exists. If this pre-requisite is not fullfilled, the error can occur.
In order to fix the problem, the following procedure is recommended:
- remove VM snapshots,
- deactivate CBT,
- restart VM and afterwards shut it down,
- activate CBT and
- restart VM (otherwise CBT will not be activated).
